A security officer has been injured in South Beach after intervening in a violent altercation at a student accommodation.

A security officer on duty at a student accommodation in the Point area was reportedly attacked in the early hours of Monday (May 18).

Ensure Security spokesperson Brendan Bubb said, “At approximately 02:30, on Monday, Ensure Security’s Tactical Units, whilst patrolling along West Street, witnessed a violent confrontation outside a student accommodation facility.

“During the altercation, the suspect attempted to flee the scene on foot. The security officers then responded swiftly, pursuing and successfully apprehending the individual near the Durban ICC. Regrettably, the security officer of the student accommodation sustained serious injuries, including a stab wound to the face. Emergency medical services were called and provided immediate treatment before transporting the injured officer to the hospital.”

South Beach CPF chairperson Mandla Cebekhulu commended the work done by Ensure Security, together with SAPS and Durban Metro Police.

“We advise students who reside in these buildings to behave themselves, and concentrate on their studies. They know the correct way of dealing with conflicts. They should not allow emotions to take hold of them for they might lose what they are here for, ie a bright future. A criminal record would taint taint their ambitions,” said Cebekhulu.
