KZN Philharmonic Winter Season 2026 opens on June 11

KZN Philharmonic’s two-concert Winter Season kicks off with Beethoven, Dvorák and Brahms under the theme: defiance against oppression, folk energy, and homage to the Rhine valley at the Playhouse Opera Theatre.
Bongani Tembe, the KZN Philharmonic CEO, said the Winter Season continues the orchestra’s 30+ year World Symphony Series tradition of musical excellence.

Daniel Boico will be the conductor for the Opening Night concert on June 11 at 19:00. The soloist is violinist Elvin Hoxha Ganiyev and the programme features Beethoven Egmont Overture, Dvorák Violin Concerto Op. 53 in A minor, and Brahms Symphony No. 3 Op. 90 in F Major.

The second concert on June 18 at 19:00 will be conducted by Lykele Temmingh of the KZN Youth Orchestra and Alexandra Arrieche of the KZN Philharmonic. Federico Colli will be the soloist on piano. The programme will include Curnow Fanfare and Flourishes, Mozart Symphony No. 25 1st Mvmt, Brahms Hungarian Dances No. 5, Lortz A Matador’s Tale and Schumann Piano Concerto in A minor.

Rev up for Gas Motorshow International at Suncoast Casino

Motor enthusiasts can prepare for a high-octane weekend as Gas Motorshow International returns to Suncoast Durban on June 13 and 14, bringing together some of the best in car culture, entertainment and live action motoring experiences.

This year’s event promises an even bigger spectacle, featuring a powerful showcase of rare and high-end vehicles, custom builds, classics, supercars and bikes, alongside leading drivers, stunt teams and popular names from the automotive world.

Visitors will also be able to explore stance, JDM, classic and vintage vehicle displays, interactive gaming zones, VR racing simulators, live music performances, competitions, prizes and giveaways.

The entertainment continues into the evening with the signature two-day after-party, making Gas Motorshow International a full lifestyle experience for motoring fans, families and thrill-seekers alike.

The event takes place at Suncoast Casino in Durban, with ticket prices ranging from R300 to R1500.

Vendors invited to book a stall

Vendors are invited to book a stall at this year’s annual Fort Nottingham Highland Gathering which returns to the KZN Midlands on Saturday, August 1.

“We want to support local and offer an opportunity for Midlands traders to sell their wares. Our look and feel is of a traditional market day – so we encourage hand-made, home-baked, vintage and thrift. We prefer not to offer mass-produced, imported goods or anything which is not environmentally friendly,” explained organiser Louise Fox.

Miss Kloof 2026 launched

The Noluphi NPO, a local non-profit, has opened applications for its Miss Kloof 2026 Leadership Academy, which aims to build confidence in girls aged five to 26 years.

Fifty girls and women from Kloof, Gillitts, Hillcrest and Pinetown will learn public speaking, financial literacy, and servant leadership before the final event on June 27.

Applications close on June 13. Sponsors and volunteers are welcome.

Westville Conservancy

Botanical Society and Keep Westville Beautiful are hosting an Open Gardens day between 09:00 and 16:00 on Saturday, June 13. The R50 entrance fee for adults (free for children) gives you access to two stunning gardens offering vistas of nature-friendly plants, shrubs and trees. Refreshments, and book and plant sales will be on offer, as well as advice on butterflies, mulching and more.
