ILLICIT drugs worth an estimated R211 000 have been seized during intelligence-driven police operations across Durban which led to the arrest of three suspected drug dealers.

The raids, carried out by the KwaZulu-Natal SAPS Provincial Drugs and Firearms Unit in the eThekwini District on Tuesday, July 21, targeted alleged drug dealing activities in the Point precinct, Florida Road, and Umhlanga.

KwaZulu-Natal SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Paul Magwaza said the first operation involved a sting operation in the Point area.

“Police conducted a sting operation in the Point area which resulted in the arrest of two suspects who were found in possession of an assortments of narcotics including rock cocaine, ecstasy crystal meth, heroin and cocaine powder. The estimated street value of the recovered drugs is R211 000,” said Magwaza.

The two suspects, aged between 30 and 40, were arrested and charged with dealing in drugs.

In a separate operation, members of the Provincial Drugs and Firearms Unit, working together with the Economic Infrastructure Task Team, raided a shop on Florida Road in Morningside.

Magwaza said the operation led to the arrest of a 25-year-old suspect.

“A search of the shop revealed a substantial amount of various kinds of cannabis in different packaging. Police proceeded to another shop at Umhlanga where they seized more cannabis products. The suspect was then subsequently charged with dealing in drugs,” he said.

All three suspects are expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on charges of dealing in drugs.
