COMPETITION: Sjava headlines Heritage Day event at Botanic

Sjava, Simmy and the Q Twins will bring homegrown sounds to the Botanic Gardens on Heritage Day – and four readers could win double tickets.

MUSIC lovers are in for a distinctly KZN celebration this Heritage Day, with Sjava set to headline the final Old Mutual Music at the Lake concert of the 2026 season.

The concert takes place at the Durban Botanic Gardens on Thursday, September 24, with Sjava performing live with his full six-piece band alongside Afro-house singer Simmy and the Q Twins from 13:00.

The line-up brings together three KZN-born acts whose music and stories reflect the province’s rich cultural influence on South Africa’s contemporary music scene.

From Sjava’s poetic storytelling, rooted in isiZulu tradition and blended with contemporary sounds, to Simmy’s Afro-house melodies shaped by her Tugela Ferry roots and the distinctive harmonies of the Q Twins from KwaMashu, the concert will showcase the diverse sounds emerging from the province.

Molise Moloi, Mass and Foundation Cluster Marketing Executive at Old Mutual, said Heritage Day provides a fitting backdrop for the celebration.

“Heritage Day gives us a meaningful opportunity to celebrate the people, places, stories and traditions that shape who we are.”

He said Old Mutual believes in creating experiences that bring people together.

“This concert celebrates the incredible talent and cultural richness that KwaZulu-Natal has given South Africa and the world. We are proud to bring a 100% KZN-born line-up to the Durban Botanic Gardens, creating a space where communities can connect, celebrate and experience the power of music together, while supporting the important work of the Gardens.”
