Prep’s budding speed merchants tackle downhill race
Prep pupils took part in the annual kart race for the first time.

THE annual Gordon Murray Downhill Race, the Glenwood High celebrity kart race, attracted a large number of entries again this year.
Glenwood Prep was one of two primary schools who entered the competition for the first time this year. From Glenwood Preparatory School, the two entrants were Makaira and Odin Kerkhof, two budding speed merchants who entered the specially-designed karts, Sharkie and Spitfire which were entered in the hotly-contested open kart division.
Glenwood Prep pupils acted as pit crew as the two youngsters competed against their high school counterparts.
A mechanical failure saw Odin exit early on in the race, while Makaira surprised everyone by coming 7th in the open division.
The boys and their crew thoroughly enjoyed the experience of following in the footsteps of the world famous car designer, who grew up in the Glenwood area.
