Downhill event a big success
Peg hosted another successful Downhill ‘Bombing’ Race in Durban North.

THOSE with a need for speed got their thrills on Friday 9 August, when Peg hosted its second annual Downhill ‘Bombing’ Race on Danville Road, Durban North.
This time the race was a SAGRA (South African Gravity Racing Association) sanctioned 1 star event so skaters could accumulate points toward being crowned SA downhill champ.
The event was well supported with almost 90 competitors from around the country attending, including the current South African champion, Raoul van den Berg and Dec’io Lourenc’o who has won every event so far this year. There were four catagories to cater for the different levels of skater.
Dec took first place in the men’s division, with Raoul second and Ricki Allardice third.
Umbilo’s Cyndi Kritzinger competed in the women’s division and won her 6th consecutive event. Second was Caylee Thomas and third was Sadie Burger.
In the first junior division, Kienan Dunn was first, with Tyron Coetzee second and David Beare third. In the second junior category, first was Simon Sturrock, second was Henry Muller and third was Bryce Gardiner
The weekend was topped off with two days of bombing the hills at Inchanga which was organised by Longboard Warehouse and Natural Descent.
The next big local event will be the downhill race on McDonald Road, Glenwood on 6 October, hosted by Gunslinger Longboards and Quiksilver.
