Morningside bodybuilder scoops Miss Bikini SA title
Personal trainer Catherine de Wet has scooped the coveted NABBA SA Miss Bikini title at the NABBA Body Building Championships recently.
MORNINGSIDE personal trainer, Catherine de Wet lives and breathes fitness. Last month the personal trainer at Physical Impact Wellness Centre at Greyville Race course, scooped the Miss Bikini South Africa title at the NABBA SA Body Building Championships at Sibaya Casino.
De Wet studied personal training and qualified with distinctions because fitness has been “an absolute passion of mine.” Since venturing into the fitness industry, she decided to start competing locally to boost her career and motivate existing clients to achieve their fitness goals and desires. “My first competition was the IFBB East Coast Classic in July this year where I was placed sixth in the Fitness Bikini division for under 1.63m,” she said proudly.
She was approached by fitness coach Cindy Marshall, who recognised her potential and helped her achieve her personal goals in the fitness industry.
The IFBB KZN regionals took place in August and De Wet was placed fifth in the Fitness Bikini division for her height.
“I decided to try out the NABBA SA Federation next, hearing much about the flamboyancy of the athletes on stage and how much more glamorous it all looks. I took part in the regional competition and narrowly missed out on first place coming second in a tough line up but was selected to take part and represent KZN in the NABBA SA South African National Championships,” she said.
Initially reluctant to participate in the prestigious event, De Wet’s coach and supportive husband, Donovan, convinced her to take part and with the extended support of colleges and friends spurring her on she began the intensive three week training regimen.
“It was three weeks of hard dieting, two training sessions a day consisting of cardio and weights and torturing myself watching the food Network channel every day while I ate my hake for breakfast!”
On the day I finally I got up on stage and gave it everything I had. I am proud to say that not only did I win my division against eight top selected athletes from around South Africa, I also took the Bikini Overall title for all three bikini divisions. I couldn’t have done it without my amazing , my supportive and encouraging husband Donovan who even put up with the funky fish smell every time I had to cook my meals, and my clients and colleagues pushing me all the way,” she said.
The next step for the fitness beauty is to represent South Africa in an international fitness show which will be held in Greece later this year.
