Odin conquers downhill race
The Urban Decent Downhill Race saw Durban skaters battle downhill for top honours against the best in the country for the coveted title on Sunday.
DAREDEVILS from across the country descended on Glenwood’s Alan Paton Road for the inaugural Urban Descent Downhill Race on Sunday, 6 October.
Glenwood’s young speedster, Odin Kerkhoff of Glenwood Prep did his community and school proud finishing first in the U10 division despite the extremely windy conditions.
More than 70 riders took to the streets competing in five divisions which were held throughout the day on a route that spanned over one kilometre in length. Speeds of over 66km/h were reached by top riders coming down the route while taking on bends, chicanes and a wet surface at times.
Jason Brown from Port Elizabeth, won the open men’s division. Brown edged out Durban’s Stephen Hayes in second place and Capetonian Ricki Allardice who finished third.
Event organisers Quiksilver and Gunslinger Longboards were very happy with the race on the day and announced that the event will be back on the calendar – bigger and better in 2014.
