
UMBILO Harlequins Cricket Club’s first team took on Dawn Heights at Gledhow in a stream one Challenge league encounter on Sunday 13 October.
Quins fielded first on a wicket that was significantly substandard, due to dampness, abundance of lawn and insufficient preparation. However, with just three overs having been delivered, the weather turned and the match was abandoned. Quins take just two points from the draw.
The second team played Phoenix 2 at Rainham in a 40 over challenge reserve match. Quins openers Kevin Norris and D Stroh scored 29 and 38 runs respectively. J du Plessis was undefeated on 17 runs and Mark Kritzinger managed to compile 10 runs. Quins were 114 runs for the loss of seven wickets at the 3 nd over juncture when a cloud burst resulted in abandonment of this league match. Match drawn.
The third side versed Berea Rovers 3 in a 30 over Division 1 encounter at Berea Rovers. A sensational spell of six overs of crafty right arm orthodox slow bowling by Shane Manicom, restricted Rovers to 152 for 10 wickets in 24 overs. Shane took six wickets for 23 runs, aided by seamer Coennie Germishuizen who took three wickets for 20 runs in six overs. Quins succumbed 14 runs shy a draw, being 138 runs for 10 wickets in 29,5 overs.
Next Sunday, 20 October 2013, Quins first eleven take on Simplex /Reservoir Hills cricket Club’s first team, in a 50 over challenge league encounter starting at 9am. and the second side play Railways from Maidstone at SL Singh in a 40 over Challenge Reserve game commencing at one p.m. All other teams have byes.
