MTB riders up for Dirt Challenge
Durban's exciting new MTB race, the Durban Dirt Challenge, is on Sunday.
UMHLANGA College School plays hosts to the Durban’s newest MTB event, The Durban Dirt Challenge on 16 February, which will see many of the top KZN MTB riders coming out to claim some early season victories.
The Durban Dirt Challenge includes two MTB events, a 45km and a 25km for riders to choose from, depending on their fitness and ability. For the children, there will be a free Garvz Sports Kiddie area available to keep the little ones entertained while the parents enjoy the mountain bike events on offer. There will be other activities on for spectators from food vendors, jumping castles, world class craft beer supplied by Odyssey Craft Breweries, music and product displays to keep each and every visitor and spectators busy. Families are encouraged to take picnics and relax on the lawns.
This exciting MTB event makes use of the local and popular sugar cane trails, meandering in and around the beautiful landscape of Umhlanga, Sibaya and Umdloti. Each course will include some great jeep track, dirt roads, sugar cane roads and a little single track to spice it up. All the tracks are fast flowing with only a few technical spots to give competitors a challenge. 32GI will be on-hand fuelling all the athletes from the start line and making sure they all reach the finish line.
The first race kicks off at 6.45am, with athletes tackling a 25km ride around the beautiful cane fields surrounding Umhlanga and Sibaya. The 45km Classic, a ride that will test those legs but give plenty to smile about with amazing views and fantastic trails from Umhlanga to Umdloti, starts at 7.15am.
