Hoist the sails

Learn how to sail at Sail Africa's open day on Saturday.

DURING the recent school holidays the grandchildren of the famous Captain Salvatore Sarno enjoyed their first sailing lessons with Sail Africa at Point Yacht Club.

Captain Salvatore was the benefactor and CEO of the Shosholoza team, South Africa’s entry into the America’s Cup on 2007.

He himself is a keen sailor and is the sponsor of the MSC Regatta, through his company the Mediterranean Shipping Company, which is held in Durban each July.

Captain Sarno is well known for his encouragement of junior sailing in South Africa, his young family are set to follow in his footsteps as they took to the water with ease.

Sail Africa offers sailing lessons to children of all ages and to school groups in the afternoons.
