Quins suffer defeat
Harlequins Cricket team lost all three their matches at the weekend.
UMBILO Harlequins Cricket Club engaged in three league matches on Sunday, 16 February 2014.
Quins first team took on ACC in a 50 over a side stream one Challenge League encounter at Hutchinson Park, Amanzimtoti. Quins captain Dieter Liebenberg made the correct decision by bowling first. As expected the seamers had a difficult time on the slow wicket, but Sylvester Sauli yielded commendable figures of 10 overs two wickets for 41 runs. The wrist spinners Dylan Labuschagne and Dieter Liebenberg proved to be the most economical of all the bowlers in their 10 over spells taking a wicket each for 33 and 38 runs respectively.
ACC managed to accumulate 231 runs in their 50 overs losing six wickets. James Wilson took five wickets for ACC for 12 runs in six overs. Quins knew that they would have to bat exceptionally well to surpass the set target of 232 runs in 50 overs.
Quins first wicket partnership comprised 36 runs, but thereafter the rest of the batsmen capitulated through throwing their wickets away with inappropriate strokes. Kevin Kettle, Dylan Labuschagne and Andre Viljoen batted responsibly adding value to their team’s cause. Sylvester Sauli was seemingly hard-done by with a bat/pad leg before wicket adjudication, by the official umpire. Umbilo Harlequins were dismissed for half the ACC score in the 30th over. ACC won by 115 runs.
Both the second and fourth teams suffered defeats at the hands of Simplex RHSCC and Delta 5 at Harlequins.
Training for seniors will be on Friday at 4.30pm and coaching sessions for U11s will be at the Harlequins nets on Thursday at 5.30pm.
