Quins come out on top
Harlequins first team won its challenge league match by 71 runs.
FIVE Umbilo Harlequins’ teams were engaged in league matches on Sunday 2 March.
Quins first team took on Umzinto at Harlequins. Quins batted first and in general favourable batting conditions prevailed throughout the course of the day. Kevin Kettle and Dylan Labuschagne laid a good foundation with yet another sound opening partnership by scoring 16 and 28 runs respectively. Andre Viljoen continued with a very successful season by being undefeated four runs shy of his half century. Ernest Kettle added 19 runs to the end tally which was 141 for seven after 50 overs.
Kevin Kettle bowled with real pace and determination with the new ball, taking one wicket for 12 runs in five overs. Dieter Liebenberg took four wickets for six runs off six overs and left arm wrist spinner Dylan Labuschagne took five wickets for 12 runs in 7.3 overs which included a well-deserved hat trick. Umzinto were dismissed for 70 runs in 21,3 overs.
Quins won by 71 runs taking five much needed log points from this match, which included a bonus point for winning within prescribed 80 percent of the allocated overs.
Other team results: Quins 4ths vs Chatsworth Sporting. Sporting 85 runs (Donovan Steele 3/19 runs; Theo Van Heerden 2/8, R Price 2/14; Clinton Abrahams 2/16; Deno Govender 14 runs, JP Dreyer 10 runs). Quins 4 lost by 33 runs. Quins 5ths vs INK 3.
Quins 5 107 runs (Ryan Baronet 47 runs; Chris Roets 14 runs; Stephen Roets 11 runs; Huey Naicker 4/34; A Grobbelaar 3/21). Quins 5 and Ink 3 tied the match.
The U11s vs Amanzintoti U11s. ACC 85 runs (Jaan Fredericks 2/15; Heath Manicom 1/11; Vishay Ramchander 1/8; Brennan David 15 runs, Heath Manicom 17 runs; Keenan David 13 runs). Quins lost by one run.
Training for U11s will be on Thursday at 5pm and for seniors on Friday at 4.30pm.
