Schools’ hockey weekend ahead
The Durban Central girls SPAR KZN regional hockey tournament gets of to a start this weekend at Durban Girls College.
THE greater Durban schoolgirls’ first hockey teams have a busy weekend ahead with the upcoming SPAR KZN regional hockey tournaments this weekend.
On Saturday, defending champions Durban Girls’ College will be hosting the Durban Central regional tournament where DGC, Maris Stella, St Henrys, Port Natal and Ridge Park will compete . Durban Girls’ College has won the regional tournament since its inception, going all the way last year when they beat Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High School in the finals tournament.
At Riverside Hockey grounds, Our Lady of Fatima will be hosting the Durban North regional. Ashton College are the defending champions for this region where 9 schools will be participating. Previous winners of the Durban North regional include host school Our Lady of Fatima (2011) and Danville Girls’ College (2012). The schools that will be taking part are Our Lady of Fatima, Durban North College, Danville Girls’ High, Northlands Girls’ High, Hillview, Crawford La Lucia, Crawford North Coast, Parkhill and Ashton College.
On Sunday, the Highway regional will take place at Thomas More College. Defending champions, St Mary’s DSG will be back in the hopes of making it four appearances at the final’s tournament in July. The schools that will be competing are Thomas More College, Gelofte High, Hillcrest High School, Westville Girls’ High School, St Marys DSG and Kloof High School.
Another five more regionals will be played in the next two months, completing the ten regions around KwaZulu-Natal and involving a total of 81 schools. Each region will have one school representing them at the finals that take place at Thomas More College and St Mary’s DSG on 26 and 27 July.
