Mini rugby reinstated at Rovers

MINI rugby is on the go at Berea Rovers Rugby Club and all interested players are encouraged to go along and try out the sport.

In 1974 it was the late Dr Kevin “Laser” Taylor who first introduced mini rugby to KZN out of the then Berea Rovers Rugby Club. The game started to thrive and grow amongst other clubs at this level and for years Rovers were a force in mini rugby with great players emerging out of the system years later. Sadly they dwindled into obscurity, whilst the game, fortunately, managed to survive and thrive in the other clubs.

Now 40 years later Jonsson College Rovers will be celebrating Dr Taylor’s legacy and have fittingly embarked on a programme to reinstate the junior game back at the 115 year old club with Clifford Nel, a passionate Old Boy of the club at the helm and heading up the program with their U6 to U11 practices already underway on Wednesday and Friday evenings between 5.45pm and 7pm.

The U12 to U18 players are encouraged to go down to Rovers, KP3, Jaco Jackson Place and register with the club as training for all these age groups kicks off on 25 June at 6pm.
