Perfect day for wave wizards surfers

Durban surfers took to the waves in the second Wave Wizards Surf Competition.

SURFERS of all ages took to the water at Umhlanga’s Main Beach for the Wave Wizards Surf Club Event on Sunday.

This was the second competition of a three part series that ends with the Lizzard Summer Surf Event.

Perfect weather and highly contestable waves were the order of the day. Starting off with slightly messy two to three foot waves but improving to three to four foot with the Umhlanga bowl offering some fun left wave options. The open ladies division was a close call with less than a point dividing winner Kirsty Delport from second placed surfer Teal Hogg. Monique Gresse and Kat Steffen placed third and fourth respectively.

Club chairman and Hurricane brand manager Jestyn Viljoen was thrilled with the outcome.

“Our club is all about encouraging the really small kids to experience competitions for the first time. We have surfers as young as six years old taking part and their dads also surfing in the Masters divisions. Today was a perfect day for all the surfers and their families,” he said.
