Glenwood ends hockey season on winning note
Glenwood's hockey team ended the season on a good note as they slumped to only five defeats during a long 25 game season.
THE Glenwood 1st XI hockey side played its final game of the season against a passionately motivated Grey side.
The score remained 0-0 for most of the first half as both sides had some great opportunities to open up their accounts. Glenwood looked the better side going forward but Grey looked just as threatening on the counter attack. The first goal came late in the first half after some great build up play again from Glenwood, which saw Awande Sikhosana arch and slot the ball on the backhand into the bottom left corner.
The second half started with some nervy moments from both sides and not much was in it for the first 20 minutes. Grey College produced some good play in Glenwood’s circle and won a penalty corner, which they capitalised on with a great flick past goalkeeper Cameron Goodwin.
The game looked to be heading towards a draw, but with only seven minutes to go Glenwood managed to pull a goal ahead from some exceptional direct hockey and found themselves leading 2-1. Grey yet again won a penalty corner, this time with 30 seconds left on the clock.
Cam Godwin pulled off two rebound saves and managed to clear the ball out the circle to Give Glenwood a 2-1 win.
A great end to season for the Glenwood boys as they slumped to only five defeats during a long 25 game season.
