Proteas, football legend headline Port Natal Masters
Football legend Neil Tovey will feature in three days of top-class bowls action at Stella Park Bowling Club.
BOWLS fans are in for three days of top-class action when the Port Natal Masters rolls into Stella Park Bowling Club from October 2 to 4.
The tournament, being held at 337 Bartle Road, Umbilo, will see 16 selected men’s bowlers go head-to-head in the Open and Veterans’ categories for the Port Natal Masters Singles titles.
The Open section promises plenty of excitement, with current Protea representatives Wayne Roberts and Paul White among the competitors. Roberts recently represented SA at the African States tournament in Lusaka, Zambia, while White has represented the country at the Commonwealth Games.
The Veterans’ section will also feature seasoned talent, including singles player John Connellan, who represented SA at the Atlantic Senior Fours in Cyprus in 2023.
Adding an extra dose of sporting star power to the tournament will be football legend Neil Tovey, who captained Bafana Bafana to victory in the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations.
Tovey will swap the football field for the bowling green as he takes on the competition alongside some of the country’s finest bowlers.
