Lupa Trio for Sunday recital

Lupa Trio comprises three accomplished string players, Aristide du Plessis (cello), Ralitza Macheva (violin) and Annamaria D’Andrea (viola).

FRIENDS of Music Association presents the Lupa Trio in concert at the Durban Jewish Centre, 44 KE Masinga (Old Fort) Road, Durban, on Sunday, 28 February at 3pm.

Lupa Trio comprises three accomplished string players, Aristide du Plessis (cello), Ralitza Macheva (violin) and Annamaria D’Andrea (viola). They are musicians with the KZNPO, as well as having distinguished careers as ensemble and solo musicians.

In this programme, the Lupa Trio will perform two of Beethoven’s String Trios, in G major and in D major. Beethoven composed his three string trios in 1797 and 1798 in Vienna. At the time of publication, the 28-year-old Beethoven regarded the trios as his best compositions.

The most vigorous of the three trios is perhaps the G major, while the Trio in D major is the most traditional piece in the opus: it lacks the G major’s symphonic effects but conveys a finely subtle chamber music with warm and intimate atmosphere. The slow movement in D minor is perhaps the most elegiac piece in the opus.

Tickets are R100 (members) and R120 (visitors). Audience numbers are limited to 50, so pre-booking is essential. Contact friendsofmusic@webmail.co.za or Keith on 071 505 1021.
All Covid protocols will be observed.
