Bowling is back!

The Atlas Bowling Club is eager for business to finally resume.

As life gradually returns to normal, there’s more good news for Boksburg bowlers, but not of the cricket sort.

The Atlas Bowling Club has alerted the Advertiser that the government has given the sport the green light to return. This after the club closed down abruptly in late March amid the outbreak of the pandemic.

Talking about the long-awaited news, Atlas Bowling Club vice president Mandy Hinstridge enthused: “We heard on July 16 that as long as we have a certificate of compliance, we can open.

I was super excited about it as we can now generate some income for the club,” said Hinstridge, before recalling the trying times brought on by the pandemic.

“The lockdown really affected us financially as we were reliant on proceeds from the bar, players’ tabs and hiring of the hall (for functions).

“Thank goodness some of the members donated funds on a monthly basis. We held quizzes and people paid tabs for games they would have played.

“Hopefully people will still donate whatever they can as we won’t be able to sell liquor.”

It was also revealed that the government has allowed the return of karate. The Advertiser will keep a close eye on further developments.
