Local swimmers excel at SA Short Course
Head coach Wade Marshall applauded his swimmers for their performances at the SA Short Course.
Swimmers from the Boksburg Aquatic Saints Swimming and Lifesaving Club impressed at the South African Short Course Championships in Pietermaritzburg from September 15 to 19.
The individual results for the boys are as follows:
Kian Keylock
Keylock swam a total of nine events and swam seven personal best (PB) times. He also claimed gold and a B Short Course world qualifying time. He won silver in the 50m (28:79) and 100m breaststroke (1:00:98) and bronze in the 200m individual medley (2:00:22).
Matthew Caldwell
Caldwell swam a total of nine events, achieving seven PBs. He claimed bronze in the 1 500m freestyle event (15:47:48).
“Caldwell has only been with me for a couple of months and I’m excited about what we’ve achieved so far,” said head coach of the Aquatic Saints Wade Marshall.
Divan Pretorius
Pretorius entered six events and swam three PBs. According to Marshall, Pretorius nearly dipped below 1:50 in the 200 freestyle, a massive PB for him.
The head coach applauded his swimmers for their performances at the SA Short Course.
“Overall, I’m extremely happy with how the gala went and immensely proud of each and every one of my swimmers.
“We put in the work and the results spoke for themselves, despite the many challenges we faced with our training facility being out of commission for extended periods of time.
“SA Short Course nationals, as expected, was an extremely fast-paced gala, attracting some of the country’s top swimmers. I’m delighted to say Boksburg finished sixth out of 17 clubs in the men’s team scores. That by itself is a massive achievement, with only three boys representing the team.”
