Refurbishment of Transvaal Hotel making good progress

Refurbishment work of Transvaal Hotel is going well.

The owner of the well-known hotel, Rogers Ndebele, states that he is happy with the way the construction project is currently progressing.

The upgrading of the hotel is planned to be completed by November, with the grand opening to be held soon after the completion of construction.

The facility will serve as a place of entertainment, targeting mostly the growing middle class of all races in Boksburg and the surrounding areas.

Around October last year, Farrar Park-based company Robon Electrical, embarked on a task to reconstruct the historical Transvaal Hotel, situated at the corner of Church and Buitenkant streets.

It is going to be equipped with hotel rooms and four bars.

The hotel is expected to provide employment for about 40 people.

The building was built in the early 1900s and was a popular hangout for Boksburg residents for many years.

It has, however, remained vacant for about 12 years, and at one stage played home to a number of vagrants.

According to Pieter Duvenage, operations manager of Robon Electrical, by rebuilding the hotel, his company aims to bring it back to its former glory days.

“We had been looking for an opportunity like this in Boksburg for a long time now, and jumped at the chance to take over the Transvaal Hotel,” says Duvenage.

“We will be keeping the historic name of the Transvaal Hotel.”
