New chairlady brings hope for Child Welfare

The Boksburg Child Welfare board of directives recently elected Pinkie Vutela-Skosana as the new chairlady for the organisation.

Vutela-Skosana appears to be a new beam of hope for the organisation that has in the recent past been plagued by financial woes that threatened to shut down operations several times.

The 42-year-old says she loves anything to do with children, and couldn’t possibly decline the opportunity given to her to help save Child Welfare from closing down.

“I have worked at legal aid for seven years now, mainly working with child-related matters.

“My job entails working with children and as well as working with social workers. I therefore understand the plight of Child Welfare to want to keep children safe,” she says.

Vutela-Skosana says she can’t make any promises when it comes to how she plans on helping Child Welfare, but that she is determined to lobby the help of local businesses and that of the municipality.

“I was raised in a time when a child belonged not only to his or her parents, but rather to the whole community.

“My wish is to educate people about their responsibility to society, to every child in their community, and to helping organisations such as this one,” says Vutela-Skosana.

“I believe in ploughing within your own community first before looking to help elsewhere.”

The new chairlady appears very adamant to seek assistance from the municipality so that local government can invest in children’s future.

“Children are our future, and if we fail to invest in them, then what message are we sending to them?

“We emphasise the importance of children having a safe home, love and education and yet we have an organisation like the Child Welfare suffering from financial woes,” she says.
