East Rand Mall boom gates frustrate shoppers
The implementation of boom gates at the open parking at Entrance 1 of the East Rand Mall has left many residents frustrated.

The boom gates, which were installed on Monday, August 4, were according to the mall’s marketing manager Alana Hoskin, supposed to improve residents’ shopping experience.
A frustrated resident contacted the Advertiser expressing her dissatisfaction at the congestion of traffic coming in and out of the mall since the installation.
“I don’t mind having to now pay for the service, but the service has to be good,” she says.
Hoskin says a software upload error resulted in a delay at the entry and exit points.
“A decision was made to lift the booms and allow the free-flow of vehicles to alleviate congestion at these points. The software problem has now been rectified and all booms are operating correctly,” explains Hoskins.
Hoskins says clearly marked parking staff have been placed at all booms to assist shoppers with the changes.
“We apologise for any frustration and inconvenience caused to our shoppers during this transition phase. We encourage all patrons to visit our website www.eastrandmall.co.za for detailed information about the parking and tariff changes.” @TumeloBoksburg
