Blood drive honours Fanie Mthupha

“A single donation can change the life of another.”

A single pint of blood, a tribute to the voice of the community

AfriSupply, in Anderbolt, dedicated its quarterly SANBS blood drive on October 1 to the memory of the Boksburg Advertiser’s late news editor, Fanie Mthupha.

Mthupha honed his craft and built lasting connections throughout the Boksburg community for 16 years, using his pen and voice to serve as a dedicated community journalist.

The seasoned newsman tragically lost his life in a vehicle collision in the early hours of September 13.

According to AfriSupply staff, they wanted their life-saving donations to honour a man who gave of himself selflessly.

“We may not have known him personally; however, his reporting on community news kept us informed and highlighted issues that impact our lives,” they said.

“Regularly donating safe blood is one of the most honest gestures anyone can do and honesty is something we are sure he valued throughout his career.”

Taking their seats and rolling up their sleeves, the staff said they are proud blood donors and challenged other businesses to host blood drives at their operations.

“If every business did a little, imagine how many lives could be saved,” they said.
