Oos Rand Secondary plans to improve their students’ performance

Oos Rand Secondary School management is formulating a plan to improve their students’ performance, the Grade 12s in particular, following the fall of the school’s matric pass rate in 2015.

Their last year’s overall matric pass rate was 83 percent, compared to 90 percent in 2014.

School principal Lincoln van Ross confirmed that their last year’s matric pass rate has slightly dropped, adding that the school management is disappointed.

He, however, stated that they are optimistic that this year they will do better, as they have a very strong group of Grade 12s.

Van Ross attributed the school’s pass rate drop to students who did not do well in mathematics and science.

“We are analysing the problem and hope to come up with solutions to raise the level of competency. Our plans include forming a working partnership with other organisations,” said van Ross.

Oos Rand Secondary School’s top three achievers of 2015 are former head boy Dumisani Ncube, former deputy head girl Lerato Sibeko and a former prefect Devon Jones.

Each of the top achievers obtained one distinction, and they all met the minimum requirement for admission to bachelors’ degree.
