A wheelchair dash all for a good cause

The lack of support from the public didn't stop the Wheelchair Dash show from rolling ahead.

The Wheelchair Dash held recently in the Checkers Hyper parking lot, was held in aid of the people of House Otto.

According to Don Clarke, co-coordinator of the event, they started out with 38 teams but some of them pulled out.

Young and old people took part in the race, which consisted of four people per team.

In this year’s annual event the winners were the Jabulani team from the Selcourt Methodist Church, who conquered the race, while winners for the best pimped wheelchair was the Alman Labour Solution team.

Robbie Ngubeni, who was part of the Jabulani team, expressed his joy at winning in the race.

“We worked as a team even though it was difficult to race while sitting in the wheelchair, but I’m glad we did it for a good cause.”

Clarke estimates R60 000 was raised.

“I thank everyone who participated and also to those companies that made an effort to support the event. I hope next year it will be better than this year’s one, but regardless of everything it was a success,” Clarke said.
