Officer’s attempted murder case not placed on court roll

The attempted murder case against the No Jack Anti Hijacking Unit officer who reportedly opened fire on a police officer’s car was not placed on the court roll and the accused was released.

The officer was arrested and charged with attempted murder for allegedly opening fire on Moroka Police Station’s Capt Det Chetty’s car during a high-speed chase along Rondebult Road, on Wednesday, November 30.

According to Boksburg SAPS spokesperson, Sgt Cebisa Maseko, the accused was scheduled to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday but he could not as the matter was not put on the court roll.

Maseko added that the matter is being handled by the Organised Crime Unit and details on why the case was not placed on the court roll were not immediately available.

It’s also unclear if the police will proceed with the case.
