EMPD seize explosives in suspect’s vehicle

According to the EMPD spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago, the man, driving in a Toyota Avanza, was driving out of the Engen Garage when members of the EMPD Intervention (SWAT) and Public Order Policing (POPs) closed in and cornered the suspect’s vehicle.

Several “gelatin” explosive jelly materials were uncovered under the back seat of the vehicle.

Members from both units were acting on information received from the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (The Hawks).

“After the formalities were conducted on the scene, the suspect was taken away by the Hawks.

“In-depth investigation is underway to profile the suspect and to establish the source of the explosive materials recovered as well as to who they were destined for,” said Kgasago.
