WATCH: At least 50 shacks burn down in Angelo informal settlement

Scores of families have been left without homes after a raging fire destroyed about 50 shacks in Angelo informal settlement this morning.

The affected families told the Advertiser that the fire broke out just after 8am at the section of the informal settlement near the railway line station, and with the aid of the wind, spread to other nearby shacks.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is undetermined at this stage.

Crews from the metro’s fire department responded to the fire and are busy trying to put out the blaze at the bottom of the informal settlement. They have managed to  stop it from spreading to other areas.

The affected families reportedly lost almost everything in the fire.
