CoE is playing catch-up with waste removal backlogs

“Keep your bins out, the backlog is being addressed.”

Waste removal services will normalise soon, as the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) implements measures to resolve the backlog.

According to CoE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini, removal services came to a grinding halt on October 28, however he did not elaborate on the reason for the interruption.

“Operational teams have mobilised a comprehensive recovery plan to normalise refuse collection across all impacted areas,” he said.

“Backlog recovery work in affected areas commenced on October 29 and will continue operations until all services are fully restored.”

Business and residents whose refuse was not collected on Wednesday, according to the waste removal calenda, are currently affected.

“Collections will be prioritised with Thursday collection days possibly experiencing delays,” he said.

“We apologises for the inconvenience caused, our teams are working diligently to restore full service. Members of the community are urged to keep their bins accessible as collection teams work through the backlog.”
