Businessman robbed of R100 000 in bank parking area
The police said it is believed the businessman was followed from Benoni to Boksburg
A 67-year-old businessman from Benoni was robbed of R100 000 in cash outside the Absa parking lot, near East Rand Mall, on May 4.
The man went to the bank to deposit money. According to Boksburg North spokesperson Justice Ramaube, the man told the police that he started at one of the banks in North Rand Road where he was told that the teller machines were not functioning after queuing for a while.

“The 67-year-old man, who was accompanied by his wife, then proceeded to Absa to make the deposit. The man alleged that after parking his car in the parking lot, he went to collect the money from the car boot which was inside his wife’s bag,” he said.
“The man told the police that four suspects approached them, one of the men, armed with a firearm, pointed the weapon at them and snatched the bag before fleeing the scene. He then called the police for assistance.”
A case of armed robbery was opened at the Boksburg North police.

Ramaube said it is believed that the businessman was followed from Benoni to Boksburg.
