Boksburg police have found their “person of interest” in the case where a woman claimed she was raped by her date.
According to the investigating officer, Sgt Molise, of the Family Violence Child and Sexual Offences Unit, the man was arrested on May 19, shortly after police received information about his whereabouts from the public.
He was, according to the police, subsequently charged with rape and was due to appear in court on May 21.
The matter was, however, not placed on the court roll as there was insufficient evidence, and the man was released.
However, police said they are going ahead with their investigation and the case may go back to court, provided enough evidence has been gathered.
