Westwood bottle store manager arrested for selling booze illegally

The manager failed to give a satisfactory explanation for what was happening on the premises

A 33-year-old liquor store manager was arrested recently for allegedly selling liquor “through the backdoor” in Westwood.

According to Boksburg North police spokesperson Const Justice Ramaube, the police got a tip-off from Lt Col Mark Naidoo regarding the man who was selling liquor amid lockdown level four regulations.

The arrest came after several complaints of noise emanating from the store were received.

“During the arrest, police found a few cars parked outside the store waiting for the liquor which was already arranged inside trolleys to be loaded. When the police approached the customers they drove away,” Ramaube said.

The police proceeded inside the liquor store to find out from the manager what was happening, but the manager failed to give a satisfactory explanation for what was happening on the premises.

“The 33-year-old man was then arrested and charged with contravening level four lockdown regulations of the sale, dispensing and distribution of liquor. The regulations 31(2) of the Disaster Management Act were read out and he was given a fine while the liquor and the store keys were confiscated,” Ramaube said.
