Howard Skeens, Sunward Park, writes:
Recently, we have been subjected to two “new” words bandied about by the ANC.
The first one is ventilate – as in the context “we have ventilated on this topic” on numerous occasions- and consequence management.
The latter suddenly comes to the forefront when employed cadres are exposed as receiving substantial amounts (of our money) from dodgy tenders. Damn, just before local elections! How embarrassing.
When the Madlanga Commission “exposed” the endemic fraud and corruption by senior employees in the Ekurhuleni Metro, the mayor was quick off the starting block – “we will be applying consequence management!”
Well, that’s just hunky dory, Mr Mayor. So can you explain to us how come the main accused – the deputy chief of the EMPD, Julius Mkhwanazi – is still employed by Ekurhuleni! The other two accused have already been dismissed!
Also, Mr Mayor, we are still waiting for a detailed explanation of how the above could have continued for so long and how the metro senior executive knew nothing about it.
Incredibly, the previous city manager served two terms!
Maybe a new phrase, “heads buried in the sand,” is applicable.
I prefer gross incompetence and paying no heed to the goings-on! Or is there something more sinister that has been occurring?
