Shoppers at Clicks Kingfisher Square chased away by EFF protesters

The Clicks inside East Rand Mall was also closed when the Advertiser visited the area this morning

The Clicks store at the Kingfisher Square in Elspark had to close its doors after a group of protesters believed to be Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) members stormed the outlet today, September 7.

One of the staff members told the Advertiser that the crowd arrived around midday and instructed shoppers to vacate the store.

They demanded that the store be closed. Information gathered suggest that the store management yielded to the demands of the protesters and shut its doors.

The protesters reportedly left the site shortly after security response teams arrived at the scene.

This comes after EFF members vowed to shut down a number of Clicks stores across the country in the wake of backlash over what has been described as an ‘insensitive and offensive’ advert published by the chain store on its website.

A security guard, who wishes to remain anonymous, told the Advertiser that the members of the EFF were aggressive when they first arrived, adding the shop wasn’t looted and nobody was injured.

The shop remained closed this afternoon.
