Patrolling members of the EMPD Anti-Cable Theft Unit busted three men in Dunswart along Main Reef Road, near the railway line, on September 17.
“The men, aged between 40 and 53, were found digging a trench with the intent to retrieve and sell the 18m-long copper cable valued at R21 600. They were taken to the Boksburg North Police Station where they were formally charged for the crime,” said EMPD spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng.

Their tools, including three picks, two spades, two hacksaws, a crowbar, four track screws, three pairs of gloves and six empty bags, were seized.
The trio is expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
Meanwhile, eight people were arrested for drunk driving during roadblocks in the Kempton Park area on September 19.
Mokheseng said the eight men and women, aged between 26 and 51, were arrested on CR Swart Drive, Pretoria Road and Greyilla Avenue.
They are expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court soon.
