De Lange, confirmed he has resigned as a member of the organisation.

“I have resigned as a councillor and both as a member of the DA on August 15. I have left the DA and am no longer a member of the DA,” said de Lange.

Alluding to the vote of no confidence, de Lange said: “It is quite clear reading the motion that the reasons advanced are frivolous and baseless.”

De Lange pointed out that after the motion was supported by a majority of caucus members, he decided to leave because he was then subjected to tremendous abuse and undermining by certain members of the caucus. “I had decided that I had enough,” he said.

A well-placed source told this publication several allegations of professional misconduct were levelled against de Lange. De Lange, however, told the Advertiser he knows nothing of serious issues of professional misconduct because he was never charged while in the party for any misconduct.

“I have requested on three occasions for the party to put charges to me on any allegations they believed I should answer to and up to the day of my resignation. I have not received any charges.”

Media reports suggested de Lange was among black leaders being targeted by a particular faction within the party. When asked about this claims, de Lange said the matter of black leaders being prosecuted in the DA is partially true.

“I will elaborate on this matter at a later stage, seeing I am in consultation with a legal team looking into certain issues that took place in the DA.”
