Woodlands shines a light on mental health

In the light of Mental Health Awareness Month, Woodlands International Senior College had a civvies day

Woodlands International Senior College’s SRC organised a civvies day on October 7 to shine a light on mental health issues, such as depression and anxiety.

Shae-Lynn Henderson, head of the SRC, explained the aim of the day was to get people to talk about mental health, as October is Mental Health Awareness Month.

She explained it was their last day at school and last project, so they wanted to do something special that would make a difference.

“We want to create awareness and get people to talk about mental health.

“Many people are too scared to speak up when they’re struggling, which is a bad thing,” she said.

Each learner paid R5 to wear civvies and all funds raised will go towards Christmas gifts for the college’s ground staff.
