Three men will appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on November 8 for formal bail application after being charged with possession of unlicensed firearm and suspected stolen property.
This comes after they allegedly robbed a Reiger Park man of his iPhone.
The complainant told police on October 25 while he was walking in the street, he was approached by three men who were known to him.
One of them allegedly pointed a firearm at him and demanded money and his cellphone.
According to Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson Sgt Mashudu Phathela, the complainant gave the men his iPhone and they ran away in different directions.
“The complainant then went to the Reiger Park SAPS to open a case of armed robbery. Information about the whereabouts of the suspects was also given,” Phathela said.
On October 28, when the officers went to look for the suspects, they found one of the suspects in possession of the complainant’s cellphone and other bank cards.
“The suspect took them to another address where the police found the remaining two suspects. A 9mm firearm was also found,” Phathela said.
Reiger Park SAPS station commander Lt Col Eugene Roets commended the officers on a job well done.
“By removing a firearm from the hands of criminals, many lives are being saved. We are on the right track in our efforts to reclaim the streets from gangs and criminals,” Roets said.
