Ekurhuleni police dismantle suspected organised crime group

MMC Mmoko praised police for rounding up the most wanted suspects in the region

The Joint Tactical Operation Team, comprising EMPD Specialised Tasked Team and SAPS Flying Squad among other role players, arrested another suspect believed to be a members of an organised crime group on the list of most wanted suspects in the region.
According to the City of Ekurhuleni MMC for Community Safety Clr Pheladi Mmoko, the man was arrested on November 26 when officers stormed into his house on Jules Street in Malvern. He is suspected to be a leader of the crime group, which has been terrorising Ekurhuleni residents, mostly women.

Arrested on Multiple Charges

The man and his co-accused are facing a number of criminal charges, including kidnapping, drug-related crimes, attempted murder, torture, possession of stolen goods, which include state-issued devices such as laptops.
“The bust in Malvern was the third largest breakthrough arrest by the police in Ekurhuleni in one month. This followed the recent operations that led to the rescue of two women who were suspected to be kidnaped, and the discovery of a huge amount of illicit substance in Bedfordview, as well as the November 21 arrest of another main member of the group – who was busted together with four suspects in Elsburg,” explained Mmoko.
The excited MMC pointed out that the gang has been terrorising the residents of Ekurhuleni and the surrounding areas, saying dismantling criminal groups targeting female residents also served as a way of showing women that during and beyond the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children, the City of Ekurhuleni will fight for their safety. Hard Work

A Job Well Done
Mmoko also saluted the team for working around the clock to nab the men that are linked to the mentioned crimes.
“It took a thorough investigation, hard work and team work with other stakeholders for these arrests to happen. More charges are expected to be added against the suspects,” said Mmoko.
The suspects will appear in the respective courts soon.
