Local model ready to shine in New York

Janco Blignaut from Hoërskool Oosterlig was recently invited to join the International Modelling and Talent Association (IMTA) Convention in New York, USA, in July 2021.
Blignaut earned his spot at the convention after excelling at the International Arts Talent Showcase (IATS), which took place between October 29 and 31.
“My model coach Cecilia Marie van Eeden from Younique Model Academy encouraged me to go for the audition at 33 and Me Talent Agency in February 2020, which I did.
“I entered an online audition for IATS where I modelled in front of the director of the agency, Elsubie Verlinden, and her team. At the showcase I performed a monologue and did fashion modelling. I received a callback and was scouted by a panel of American professionals. I also obtained the Overall Male Fashion Model Award at the showcase,” he explained.
The 14-year-old said he is ecstatic and honoured about being selected to represent his country at the convention.
“I’m looking forward to the IMTA. I know that this opportunity does not come along every day, and I’m willing to put in the work, time, and effort to become successful.
“I want to build a career in the entertainment and modelling industry both locally and internationally. Furthermore, I would like to be an inspiration to other young men who loves modelling. Modelling is for all. It teaches confidence and self-respect,” he said.
The Klippoortjie Park resident said his visually impaired cousin, Carina James (Miss Universal SA 2019) motivated him to do modelling.
Blignaut is, however, in need of assistance from the community to make his New York dream a reality.
