Johnson Matthey celebrates International Volunteer Day
Johnson Matthey employees spent their afternoon in Ramaphosa creating awareness about Covid-19
As part of the International Volunteer Day, Germiston-based company Johnson Matthey collaborated with the Reiger Park SAPS Men for Change to donate 30 Christmas hampers and Covid-19 kits to the elderly people of Ramaphosa on December 4.
International Volunteer Day is celebrated every year on December 5 with the aim of encouraging individuals and organisations to volunteer and contribute to government agencies, non-profit institutions and community groups.
During the handover, which took place at two residential properties in Ramaphosa, beneficiaries were divided into two groups in order to curb the spread of coronavirus.
Johnson Matthey’s occupational nurse, Hermina Nyepela, educated the elderly about Covid-19 and how they can protect themselves from the virus.
HR director of Johnson Matthey Ndima Rawana said: “We decided to focus on Covid-19 education and awareness for the elderly because they are the most vulnerable group. We handed out kits that include face shields, masks, soap and sanitisers so they can keep safe during this festive season. We also brought along Christmas grocery for them to enjoy with their families during this time.”
One of the beneficiaries, Adeline Khachala (61), said the groceries will come in handy during the festive period.
Meanwhile, about 300 children from the area also benefited, as they received sandwiches.
