Fraudsters arrested for allegedly stealing hundrends of rand from job seekers
The two men have since been released on R3 000 bail each
A security guard and another man have been arrested for fraud after they promised people bogus jobs.
Job seekers were lured into a scam by these men who allegedly conned them out of hundreds of rands, with the believe that they would be recruited for employment.
According to Boksburg North spokesperson Const Justice Ramaube, during investigations the police discovered that victims were given pamphlets to apply for various types of jobs.
“Once the victims phoned the numbers on the pamphlets, they would be advised to make a deposit into their account and they would disappear. In other instances, victims were directed to one of the companies in Boksburg but when they were about to reach the company, the suspects would call them and describe how they are dressed and they would be told to quickly go and deposit money to their account,” Ramaube said.
Det Sgt Kwena Phaka, Det Sgt Donald Bogopa and Det Sgt Sipho Mavhanga of the Boksburg North Police Station managed to track down the men and arrest them.
Ramaube said the guard who lives in Actonville was arrested at his workplace on November 12. The other man was arrested in Leeuwpoort Street. He lives in Jerusalema informal settlement.
The duo appeared in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on November 13 and where each released on R3 000 bail. They will again appear in court on December 15.
