Members of the EMPD arrested eight drivers caught on camera speeding on Boksburg and Primrose roads.
“In Primrose (Pretoria Road) and Boksburg (R21), the EMPD Speed Enforcement Unit members targeted speedsters on the build-up area and outside where speed limits are zoned 60 and 100km/h,” said EMPD spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng.
In Boksburg, on the R21 south, officers arrested a driver for speeding in a white VW Polo at 159km\h on a 100km\h zone. He allegedly told police he was rushing to visit his sick son in hospital.
Also in the same area, officers arrested another motorist who was caught clocking 145km/h on the freeway. He reportedly told officers that he was late for work.
Both motorists were detained at the Boksburg North Police Station, where they were charged with reckless and negligent driving.
Meanwhile, in the Primrose area, a male driver in a SUV was caught doing 104km\h in a 60km/h zone on Pretoria Road. Five other motorists were also caught in the 60km\h zone travelling between 100km\h and 103km/h.
They were taken to the Primrose Police Station, where they were each granted R1 000 bail.
