Families in need of assistance after shack fire

None of the affected family members were injured during the fire

About 10 families are urgently in need of the community’s support after a fire destroyed about eight shacks and a house in the Blue Sky informal settlement on December 11.
According to one of the affected people, Dirk Taljaart, the fire broke out at about 11pm while he was sleeping.
“It happened so fast. We lost everything: clothing, televisions, furniture, blankets, identity documents and groceries.
“The exact cause of the fire is unclear, but we suspect that a petrol bomb sparked the blaze,” he said.

Dirk Taljaart explained that his family lost everything in the fire.

Some of the affected families are now living in tents while they are rebuilding their homes.
He said they are now in need of items such as building materials, furniture, bedding and groceries.
Anybody who is able to assist the families can contact Dirk on 064 068 0097 or Gina on 060 550 9090.
Donations can also be dropped off at the Volle Evangelie Kerk (VEK) in Boksburg North, situated at the corner of Paul Smith Street and Gelofte Avenue.
