Sixteen drivers arrested for drunk driving in Boksburg during the weekend

Motorists were stopped and tested for sobriety, using a breathalyser or alcometer, before some of them were found to have had one too many

Members of the EMPD Freeway Unit arrested 16 motorists for suspected drunken driving in Boksburg on February 20.
According to EMPD spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng, the drivers were arrested in an eight-hour-long operation, which was in a form of roving roadblocks in Cason and surrounding areas.

Dozens of motorists were stopped and tested for sobriety, using a breathalyser or alcometer, before some of them were found to have had one too many.

“The nabbed suspects were taken to the Boksburg North Police Station, where they were charged with driving while intoxicated, with an alternative charge of reckless and negligent driving. They are expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court soon,” said Mokheseng.
Mokheseng pointed out that during the anti-drunken driving process, all the Covid-19 protocols were applied.
