Members of the Boksburg North SAPS crime prevention have recently arrested three men who were found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Boksburg North SAPS officers Sgt Bazil Mpofu, Sgt Lucky Mavuso, Sgt Bhuthi Kunene, Const Nkosinathi Mkhonza, Const Tlou Thamaga and Const Aryton Petersen noticed a parked Quantum taxi with three men inside along Louis Botha Street in Beyers Park around 1.40pm.
According to Boksburg North police spokesperson Const Justice Ramaube, officers found the situation suspicious because it is rare to find a taxi parked around Beyers Park.
“When the men noticed the police they left the area and the police followed them. The three men were corned along Trichardts Road and they were asked to be searched. Two of the men were allegedly found in possession of unlicensed firearms with filed off serial numbers and ammunition.”
Ramaube said the police enquired about the taxi and it was revealed that it belonged to the Mamelodi Taxi Association.
“When police officers asked the men what they were doing in the area they claimed that they were there to fetch a new vehicle from a local dealership. When police asked about the name of the dealership they mentioned a non-existent business,” Ramaube said.
The trio was then arrested and charged. They have since appeared in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court.
