Drive with caution at this intersection in Atlasville
The ward councillor said it is a high accident and traffic lights urgently needs to be installed at the intersection.
Ward 23 councillor and DA shadow MMC for environmental development in Ekurhuleni Andre du Plessis recently raised concerns that the intersection of Ekster Street and Brentwood Park Roads in Atlasville is a danger zone.
This is due to motorists ignoring the three-way stop signals.
Another fatal accident took place at this intersection on March 17, he said.
This three-way intersection directly links Atlasville residents to main arterials, travelling north and south.
According to du Plessis, it is a high accident zone and traffic lights urgently need to be installed at the intersection.
“Eight out of 10 people don’t stop at the stop signs, and we need immediate intervention.
“This is a road being used daily by many heavy-duty vehicles, which simply ignore the current three-way stop signals.
“We need traffic lights, additional traffic warning signs and more regular traffic law enforcement,” du Plessis pointed out.
MMC for human settlements Lesiba Mpya responded to the ward councillor’s email in regards to the hazardous road.
“The matter raised is noted. I shall be looking into it with the relevant department and with the urgency it deserves and all feasible factors would be taken into cognisance,” Mpya said.
