Residents of Ward 43 are reminded to register to vote on April 10 for their new ward councillor in the by-elections scheduled to take place on May 19.
Voter registration for Ward 43 will be held on April 10 and 11, from 8am to 5pm.
Ward 43 consists of areas such as Sunward Park, Freeway Park, Klipoortjie, Groeneweide, Windmill Park and Dawn Park.
The ward was previously represented by the DA. The ward seat became vacant as a result of the death of its former councillor, Bruce Reid.
Residents from these respective areas can register at the following stations
• Falcon Educational School
• Sunward Recreational Park
• God with us Ministries
• Sunward Park High School
• Freeway Park Primary School
• Kingdom Wealth Property
• Living Waters Multipurpose.
Voters are reminded to take their ID with them – either a green barcoded ID book, a smartcard ID, or a valid temporary ID certificate.
“Voters will need to complete their physical home address on registration or provide sufficient particularities of their place of residence. Documented proof of address (e.g. a municipal account) is not required,” said IEC spokesperson Kate Bapela.
Bapela reminds voters that it is a criminal offence to register and vote in a ward in which they are not ordinarily resident.
